What is your management / work philosophy?

My philosophy is not complicated. By keeping a very concentrated portfolio, I can focus on my best ideas and be better informed about the risks and potential return of each investment.

What is your best professional memory?

One of my favourite professional memories is the start of my career with my mentor. His investment career started right after he served in World War 2. Every day he taught me something that he had learned over the course of his 40-year career. With the benefit of my 30-year career, I hope to be as helpful in teaching the next generation.

And your worst experience?

The worst experience was the Great Financial Crisis in 2008-2009. Unlike previous crashes caused by excessive valuation, the financial crisis was one that shook the foundations of the modern world, and no one knew how far it would go or when it would reach its end. A situation that was, day after day, extremely stressful.

What are your challenges for the next 12 months?

The biggest challenge will be to protect the fund in what is going to be a challenging year of rising interest rates in a market of high valuations.
