In this newly created role, Bob will lead the origination and execution of European, UK and Australian ABF as well as SRT transactions. As a senior investment leader on the SP&ABF team, based in London, Bob will also oversee European and UK Asset-Backed Securities (ABS) activity.

Bob’s addition comes as the SP&ABF team continues to identify areas where capital can be deployed attractively across a continuum from investment grade to opportunistic income. Today’s appointment continues the expansion of the ABF & SRT team’s investment capacity and it’s diverse and flexible investment tool kit to facilitate client solutions. The SP&ABF team continues to develop and deliver a range of income-oriented solutions across syndicated and bi-lateral investments to meet clients’ evolving needs. The team’s AUM has surpassed $22bn .

The ABS and ABF proposition is a key pillar of Schroders Capital’s PDCA platform, enabling innovative investment solutions backed by real world assets. Investments cross over a broad range of borrower types and collateral sub-sectors, as well as a range of investment structures from loans to securities to structures, such as risk transfer or warehouse facilities. As one such example, SRT complements this offering by providing investors with exposure to bank lending portfolios through capital relief transactions.

Bob brings over 25 years of experience in the UK, Europe and the US, with a strong track record in origination, distribution and capital raising across complex structured credit strategies. He joins Schroders Capital from Manulife CQS Investment Management, where he played a key role in building the firm’s ABF platform and supporting the growth of its SRT franchise.

Prior to CQS, Bob spent over a decade at Lloyds Bank in senior roles, including Managing Director and Head of Credit Sales. Prior to that he worked at Morgan Stanley in New York and London across ABS syndication and Bob began his career as a credit analyst at Abbey National Treasury Services.

Michelle Russell-Dowe, Co-Head of PDCA and Global Head of Securitized Product and Asset-based Finance, Schroders Capital, said: “I am thrilled to have Bob on the team. He represents exactly the type of investor that can benefit from a flexible framework and the ability to be dynamic and access the opportunity the market is affording. Bob’s experience, leadership and senior presence will continue to emphasize our global presence as well as the continued build-out of our local investment presence in London and Zurich. Bob has exactly the right skill set to harness the opportunities of today and of tomorrow, particularly as demand grows for high quality, diversifying, income‑oriented strategies. Bob brings a depth of experience across sourcing, structuring and credit assessment which will further strengthen our ability to scale, innovate and deliver best-in-class solutions for clients across a range of return profiles.

“ABF continues to gain ground in client portfolios, as a priority for its ability to offer diversification, reduced sector concentrations and collateral-backed, real-economy exposures Bob’s arrival further positions us to advance and expand our ABF strategies.”

Bob Paterson, Head of European Asset-based Finance and Significant Risk Transfer, Schroders Capital, said: “I am excited to be joining Schroders Capital’s SP&ABF team. The firm has built a long track record as a pioneer in securitized products and asset-based finance, underpinned by a fundamentals-driven approach and the ability to navigate inefficiencies where value emerges. As ABF and SRT markets continue to evolve and expand, I look forward to working with the team to further develop the platform to provide clients with strategies that meet their growing demand for income, diversification, and structurally robust credit exposure.”
